IRVING – CEC Facilities Group is the top-ranked Texas MEP firm in Engineering News-Record’s 2021 national Top Specialty Contractors list. CEC checked in at No. 139 overall, up 61 spots from 2020.
CEC had $208 million in revenue in 2020, with a projected $300 million in future contracts. Most of that total came from general building (75 percent), while 15 percent came from manufacturing projects and another 10 percent from infrastructure/telecom.
ENR releases yearly revenue-based rankings of the top 600 specialty contractors from across the nation. The represented trades range from asbestos abatement to excavation, painting, roofing, and sheet metal. Fourteen Texas firms made the top 150. Of those, six were electrical contractors and two were mechanical.
CEC is one of 11 total MEP firms on the list, and only two in Texas. CEC is the third overall MEP company.
“We’re growing fast: we were at 650 teammates at the start of 2021, and we have now crossed the 1,000-person mark,” said Brad Smith, President. “We may be based in North Texas, but we’re truly becoming a national contractor.”
CEC is more than a simple Texas MEP contractor. Its project list continues to grow. Earlier this year, CEC added its largest contract to date, a 500-mile fiber-to-the-home project in Billings, Montana. CEC extended its presence with a major advanced manufacturing client, and an innovative vehicle manufacturing project, while also expanding its client base in the data center, healthcare, and educational markets. CEC is also leading the way with in-building wireless solutions, electric-vehicle chargers, and renewable/solar projects.
ENR’s regional magazines released their local rankings last month, and CEC checked in at No. 12 in the Texas/Louisiana region. Like the national rankings, CEC was also the top MEP contractor on the regional list.
