Last-mile connectivity
CEC began this 500-mile project around the Billings, Mont., area in August 2021. CEC will bring high-speed internet access to more than 44,000 addresses. Partnered with KLJ Engineering, CEC has a regional presence that can expand.
Montana and Idaho are in the midst of a large-scale immigration boom, which will require additional infrastructure improvements during the next two decades.
As part of a broader statewide effort known as Project Thor, CEC installed underground fiber-optic conduit between Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This project provided better broadband access to residents and businesses, as well a creating a secondary option for critical infrastructure like hospitals and public safety organizations. CEC installed along cliffsides, three tunnels, and 15 miles of retaining walls.
Communities, big and small, depend on high-speed internet access for continued growth. The recent work-from-home shift only exacerbated this trend, especially in rural America. CEC supported Visionary Broadband in this CARES Act infrastructure project. CEC installed 300,000 ft of underground fiber-optic cable in Wyoming to bring high-speed internet and communication access to thousands of rural citizens. The project included directional drilling, plowing, and trenching for two 1.25-inch high-density polyethylene conduits, as well as 200 surface-access handholes for later maintenance.
CEC is committed to bridging the digital divide in America’s rural regions. On this project, CEC installed fiber-optic underground conduit throughout Texas education service center’s Region 15 footprint. This project helped bring high-speed broadband access to approximately 25,000 students, teachers, and administrators in 43 independent school districts around San Angelo. The project led the way for additional commercial improvements in the same region, helping to drive the economy of small towns in the Concho Valley.
