As Americans, we have several holidays that support our military. Some honor those who have passed, others honor a specific branch, or the birth of our nation.
Veterans Day offers a complete view of service. Its inception came from Armistice Day, which commemorates the end of World War I. The finality of that event represents the completion of an indelible event that changed the course of history.
Ronald Reagan put it best while speaking at a Marines ceremony:
“Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don’t have that problem.”
Reagan’s message certainly applies to all branches throughout time. Veterans, by the specific act of enlistment or conscription, serve in a cause greater than themselves. Veterans matter as much as the cause they support.
Veterans are interwoven into our jobsite teams. Some may be outspoken about their service, while others prefer to keep that part of their life private. Either way, CEC wants to thank each one for their service – and to show that you do make a difference at work, at home, and in the community.
If you see a veteran, please thank them for their service. Tell them how they’ve impacted your life. Give your veteran family members a call tonight, or pencil in some time for a visit to a veterans’ center.
Also, remember their families, who, in their own way, had to sacrifice while their dad, mom, sister, brother, son, daughter, or spouse was serving overseas. Without them, we may not have the freedoms and privileges we enjoy every day.
Veterans make a difference at CEC. Thank you for working with us, and thank you for your service.
